leaves the hole during short sap runs cannot be pulled back by the tree as it freezes. Contaminated sap from the tubing system is prevented from being pulled back into trees, extending the sugaring season and substantially increasing sap production.

With a reduced diameter of ¼", it will minimize the compartmentalization zone (dead wood area) affected by tap holes. The diameter and depth of the tap hole have a direct influence on how large this area becomes. If sustainability of your bush is a priority, ¼" spouts drastically reduce the compartmentalization effect.
